The team then bounced out to field hoping for success fielding  however Scalby 2nds did make the team work for the points but finally the team took all 20 points bowling scalby out for 94 with impressive figures for Michael Readman of 4 for 41.

  • What a sad weekend for Cloughton Cricket Club with both teams being defeated. The two teams are both fighting for points but this weekend was a struggle for points for both teams the 2nd being bowled out for 95 and only young ace James Long troubling the score with 38.  The first team had looked as if they could win chasing 171 but only made 153 all out with Rich Malthouse scoring 38 and skipper Phil France 32.

  • Staithes picked up maximum points against the firsts whom saw their hopes of becoming league champions fade after being bowled out for 44. In a match reduced to 37 overs a side Cloughton had no answer to the home team bowling duo of Jeff Morrison who finished with figures of 13 overs, 4 maidens 4 wickets for 16 runs and Simon Bowes who claimed 6-23 from his 12.2 overs. Replying the home team did not wait for rain to spoil the party knocking off the runs in only 8 overs, Ian Dixon scoring 19 with Mark Allen 16 and Chris Morrison 9 still together at the close.

  • The firsts had to fight at the penultimate ball to gain a 2 wicket victory over bottom team Cayton whom posted a total of 192 – 8 thanks to good knocks from Jez Riley 36, Jake McAleese 47 and Paul Miller 30. Top bowler for Cloughton was Jake Dudding who claimed 4-80. Replying Cloughton’s opening pair Richard Malthouse 56 and Nick Gibson 61 gave them a perfect start adding 111 runs before a wicket fell but then Cayton gained the upper hand leaving Cloughton requiring 4 to win with 2 balls remaining and 8 wickets down. Phil Chambers proved the man for the occasion clipping a four to end the contest in Cloughton’s favour.

  • The 2nds battered Muston on Saturday 25th July. Despite loosing the backbone to the 1st team, Kev Keld was needed to replace Damien Readman in the 1st team.  The second team however were still strong as ever and proved that by bowling Muston out for 47 in 19 over Michael Readman and Mark Bennett had a good time with the ball taking 4 wickets a piece. Ady Owenson taking the other as Muston had only got 10 men. The team did not change from our winning ways and stuck to the original batting order with Skipper Nock and James Long opening the batting unfortunately Long did loose his wicket for 16 and Sean Exley cam to the crease and smashed a quick 19 while the skipper held the other end to make sure we got a full 20 points The game finished seeing less than 30 over’s and by half past 4.

  • Cloughton 2nds win the Cayley Cup against Seamer 2nds on Sunday 19th July. However the rain did cause some problems on the day before play even started the game was reduced to 19 over’s. Seamer won the toss and stuck us in to bat. Captain Ricky Nock and Sean Exley opened the batting and looked good at first until Exley lost his wicket and vice captain Michael Readman joined the skipper at the crease Ricky went well for 32 but once his wicket went the team had a breakdown and at one point were looking like setting a small score. Until Ady Owenson went out and smashed 38 before being caught and Kev Keld and Rich Ward continuing pushing on the score to 130 for 7. Michael Readman was the obvious option to open the bowling with figures of 9 for 36 of 17 the day before however did not have the best of starts and at the other end Ady Owenson had a good spell. Readman did prove to be economical. There was a twist to the game 2 balls into the 11 over rain once again stopped play. When the play re started the Duckworth Lewis rule came into play leaving Seamer 64 of 6 overs. But the great bowling of Kev Keld, Sean Exley and a crucial one over from Craig Lyons saw Seamer fall short.

  •

  • The first team struggled with a defeat to Staxton who gained a maxium with 20 points Danny Cooper was the pick of the bowlers but the absenct Mark Wells was missed for his accuracy and reliability with the ball. There were a few promising starts with the bat however no1 went onto get  a massive score the scorers were Nick Gibson 42, Gary Pickup 49 who struggled with a hamstring injury and Jake Dudding 24.

  •

  •  Michael Readman had a match winning performance when he was backed up by team mates to take great figures of 9 wickets for 36 runs of 17 overs all of the wickets were  caught. Ady Owenson stealing the other wicket. This left Cloughton chasing 84 of 33 overs. James Long had a good tnkle wit the bat getting 45 before realising he was on that score and troting down the wicket because we needed 2 to win and he wanted to chase his 50 and getting bowled however his inputt was crucial. The team ended up knocking the runs off loosing 4 wickets which meant we only got 18 points. This put cCoughton 27 points clear.

The rest of the team backed him with a great knock from captain Ricky of 61 and a 48 from great signing Rich Ward who has scored 88 in his first 2 succesive innings for Cloughton. Vice captain Michael Readman then followed the excellent batting perfomance with figures of 3 for 48 and Kev Keld the pick of the bowlers from the day took 3 for 32 meaning the final scores were 269 for 3 for Cloughton and 135 for 9 for Valley.

  •  The first team had another good win to keep in touching distance of the top spot after bowling Sherburn out for 119 in only 32 overs. Sherburn  were 57 for 8 the home team’s innings was in total disarray until number 8 batsman Andrew Holtby scored a valuable 37 and with brother Michael batting at number 10 and adding 28 helped double the total. Creating all the home team problems were the pace duo of Mark Wells 4-40 from 10 overs and Danny Cooper 4-37 from 11. Cloughton did not face the same problems as Nick Gibson 56 and Richard Malthouse who continued remaining unbeaten on 43 put on 92 before a wicket fell, knocking off the runs without further loss

  • Wednesday night was a great success for the firsts after they sailed through to the next round of the Hospital Cup.  Cloughton batted first with Gibson and Virr opening they had a good start to the game with Paul hitting a good half century but Gibo struggled but slowly but surely helping Virr with his dead bat which was  well commented on by Cooper. Cloughton finished on 136. Scalby never looked like catching that score with a maiden to start the innings of Scalby of Mark Wells. And Jake Dudding taking 4 wickets but lost 4 runs to a slippery surface in the only spot on the field were bowler Wells was fielding however Scalby fell 30 short.

  • Tuesday night’s cricket saw the 2nd team go top of the league and the 1st team had an unfortunate loss to Staxton. The 2nds comfortably beat joint leaders Wykeham who struggled first with the bat after a good break through with opening Cloughton bowler’s Captain Michael Readman and Shaun Pindar both taking the 2 openers of Rich Murfin and John Wanless. The bowling changes soon came though on the 7th over with Josh Greening taking over from Pindar and Rob Barker getting his first spell in any league for Cloughton. Josh took a could break through to get into the tail of the batsmen with rob taking 2 wickets in his first 3 over’s and 1 wicket in his last over leaving him with figures of 3 wickets for 21 runs of 4 over’s. Old time legend Ken Waters also chipped in with the bowling with 2 over’s. We had left ourselves a score achievable of 91 of 18 over’s. Openers Chris Malthouse and Pindar again started well but Pindar didn’t  stay mean skipper Readman came in looking to win the game with Malthouse batting the majority of over’s and getting 29 he was going well but Readman and Maltohouse gave their wicket away by skiing the ball on square leaving easy catches. An inform but recently injured Scott Wardmen came in with Rob Barker already at the non strikers end saw Wardmen hit some explosive shots to win the game including a good 6 towards square leg. Finishing the game with only 3 wickets lost and over’s to spare.

  • Saturday 6th June had both teams winning even though there were a few scares among the way. But both teams losing early wickets did not matter as the teams were only chasing a small score.  That they both achieved.

  • The 2nds were fighting for points in yesterdays clash with Forge Valley but with a good bowling performance from Beno and Keldy kept the runs down. The last over on the field before tea saw an attacking field setting to get the last bowling point which did come on the last ball after a mix up with running between the wickets and the non striking end looked for 2 and did not return to his crease so Callum Ferrie stumped him with great advice from Cully. The batting attach was not as strong as usual all though they did the job so deserve the credit. Beno who’d had a good time with the ball backed that up with the bat with a good knock of 45, Captain Ricky with a deserved 34 opening the batting with Stevie Chambers. Ady Owenson finished the game and won it in the end. With a promising 14 not out with 8 overs to spare.

  •  Thursday 4th June see's both Evening League teams winning their league games. With the firsts easily turning Fords over. The seconds had what looked to be an easy win and a good start from Sean Pindar but partner Chris Malthouse got a second ball duck but when skipper Michael Readman joined an inform Sean Pindar it never looked like a loss Pindar who got a half century batted well but was caught on the boundary at mid wicket leaving Scott Wardmen the chance to take the winning runs the following over.
